At its October 2025 meeting, the Northville Board of Education approved Mackenzie Simpson as the district’s next Secondary Supervisor of Special Education. Simpson, who has already been serving in a role within Northville Public Schools, brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to inclusive education and student success.
Before stepping into her new role, Simpson served as an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Consultant for Northville Public Schools, where she supported inclusive service delivery across ten schools, coached more than 100 staff annually on compliance and best practices, and led over 40 IEP teams each year to ensure high-quality educational outcomes for students with disabilities.
Mackenzie expressed her excitement for beginning her leadership role in Northville, stating, “I am truly honored to begin my leadership journey in Northville. Over the past several years, I have seen firsthand the commitment of Northville’s staff and families to supporting all students and I am excited to continue that work by building on that strong foundation of inclusion and student success. My focus will always be making sure every student has the support and opportunities they need to succeed.”
Simpson holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education from San Diego State University, where she was recognized as Graduate Student of the Year, and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from the same institution. She also holds multiple Michigan Professional Teaching Endorsements, including ASD, CI, EI, POHI, LD, and EL. In addition, she has earned temporary approvals as both Supervisor of Special Education and Director of Special Education, and is currently completing her K–12 Administrator Certification through Grand Valley State University.
Her professional background includes leadership and teaching roles in Livonia Public Schools, Wayne-Westland Community Schools, and the Chula Vista Elementary District in California. Throughout her career, Simpson has been recognized for her expertise in developing inclusive programming, leading PBIS initiatives, supporting staff in behavioral and instructional best practices, and collaborating with families and educators to meet the needs of every learner.
Simpson will oversee secondary special education programming, providing leadership and support to ensure that Northville continues to meet the diverse needs of all students through evidence-based, equitable, and inclusive practices.
