This summer, eligible Northville families can receive additional support to help feed their school-aged children through Michigan Summer EBT, also known as SUN Bucks. The program provides $120 per eligible child to use toward groceries during the summer months—helping to ensure no child goes hungry when school is out of session.
Children who receive SUN Bucks benefits can still participate in other summer meal programs, giving families more flexibility and access to nutritious food.
Who Is Eligible?
Your child may be eligible if they are school-aged (6–18 years old) and meet one of the following criteria between July 1, 2024, and August 31, 2025:
- Currently receiving SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid with household income at or below 185% of the federal poverty level
- Are categorically eligible (foster youth, homeless, migrant, or runaway status)
- Approved for free/reduced-price meals during the school year
Some families will automatically receive SUN Bucks without needing to apply. This includes children already enrolled in SNAP, TANF, or certain types of Medicaid, and those identified through direct certification or school meal applications.
Do You Need to Apply?
You do not need to apply if:
- Your child already receives SNAP, TANF, or Medicaid (based on income)
- Your child is approved for free/reduced-price meals at school
- Your child is in foster care, homeless, a migrant, or a runaway
If your child does not meet the criteria above or attends a school under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), you may need to apply online through MI Bridges. A paper application will be available soon.
Important: If you’ve recently moved, please update your address with your child’s school and/or the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) to avoid delays.
Income Guidelines
To qualify based on income, your household must be at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. Your household includes all adults and children living in the home. Income limits vary depending on household size.
Benefit Expiration
Once issued, SUN Bucks must be used within 122 days. Unused benefits will be expunged after this period and cannot be reinstated. Be sure to use the full amount before the expiration date.
